National Open Art is one of the UK’s leading art competitions open to amateur and professional artists in the UK and Ireland.  Administered by the Chichester Art Trust it is the brainchild of sculptor Neil Lawson-Baker. Seaward Properties is proud to have been a supporter of the competition for many years. National Open Art now attracts more than 4,000 entries each year and offers shortlisted and winning artists exposure and income opportunities through exhibitions and online sales.

There have been many venues for the annual prizegiving ceremony but this year’s was spectacular. The Bargehouse at the OXO Tower is a vast four-storey untouched building which provided an inspiring backdrop to the competition entries.  Jane Barker, Seaward’s Sales & Marketing Manager, was there to present the following prizes :

21st National Open Art 2nd Prize : Karen Knorr for The Opium Smoker, Chitrasala, Bundi

21st National Open Art Photography 2nd Prize : Gillian Hyland for Eyes Shut

Seaward is currently selecting a winner for the Seaward Chichester Prize for a young artist.  This will be presented at the Oxmarket Gallery in Chichester on 14 December as part of the exhibition of entries for the 1st National Open Art Children Competition.  The entrants, aged from 5 – 14, have submitted some inspiring works.  Details of the winner of this prize will be announced in a future post.
