Last night’s Great Interior Design Challenge was a change to the published edition.

The three hopeful interior designers were asked to create a new look for three open plan living and dining rooms in a group of Victorian terraced houses in the heart of London’s East End. Once again they were giving a budget of £1,000 and the assistance of a handy builder.

The outcomes were probably the most successful of the series so far, with Charlotte’s ‘modern masculine’ look taking her through to the next round. She had persuaded the home owner to allow her to use a striking dark grey paint on the walls and despite his initial reservations the overall effect was stunning.

The next round takes place on Tuesday 4 November.
